Greek scholars and deities at Auckland Pride Parade Event as iCalendar

20 February 2016

5pm

Location: Three Lamps, Ponsonby Road

Pride-parade

Unleash your inner Greek scholar or deity - we're taking a toga party to the streets!

Join us at the Auckland Pride Parade to celebrate the University of Auckland’s amazing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) community.

This year’s parade theme is "Stories, Myths & Legends", and we're honouring the legacy of the ancient Greek academy in our inaugural walking float. We'll bring the laurel wreaths, you BYOT (Bring Your Own Toga).

If you choose to forgo the toga, please wear blue so we can make a strong visual statement.

Please RSVP here

Everyone from our University community is welcome. We are proud to be a safe, inclusive and equitable place to study and work.

Programme

5pm: Meet at Ponsonby Road, Three Lamps
Meet at the “Celebrate LGBTI” University of Auckland teardrop flag to pick up your laurel wreath, participant’s wristband and University of Auckland balloon. You will find us between Tole Street and Russell Street.

5.30pm: Get into formation

6pm: Parade begins!
We’re float #20 on the programme list to make our way down Ponsonby Road towards Western Park. When we reach the end, meet us at the University tent to hang out and drop off any unwanted balloons or laurel wreaths.

7.30-10pm: Happy Ending
For those who want to party on, Auckland Pride Parade is inviting all parade participants to join them at Western park for a Happy Ending to the parade.

Note:

  • Our float will be accompanied by up to six float marshals from the University, identifiable by their blue sashes and University lanyard.
  • Bear in mind that there won’t be any space available to store any bags – you’ll be bringing them with you on the parade.
  • It goes without saying that nudity, indecency and excessive drunkenness will not be allowed.
  • Ponsonby Road will be closed from 3pm, and parking around the area will be very limited. Please try to share transport or use public transport where possible.
  • Please note that this event may be photographed or filmed for media or social media.
