Alumnus profile

BE(Hons) ME(Hons) PhD

Wilson Chiu received a BE(Hons) and Master(Hons) in Engineering from The University of Auckland. He joined the Auckland Bioengineering Institute in late 2006 as a doctoral student.

Wilson was part of the pulmonary research group, which develops computational models of different pulmonary functions using anatomically-based geometries derived from CT scans.

Wilson's doctoral research focussed on incorporating different aspects of lung function and behaviour, pulmonary impedance modelling, bimodal ventilation, clustered ventilation. He investigated mathematical models which explained the behaviour of heterogeneous ventilation. He also investigated models which predict the pulmonary impedance.
