Dr Bronwen Noreen Kelly

Biography
Dr Kelly joined the Auckland Bioengineering Institute as a part-time Honorary Research Associate in early 2015. Dr Kelly is an experienced public sector professional with internationally recognised expertise in health research and a strong background in managing and monitoring the performance of government investment in tertiary education, research, science and technology.
She graduated with an Honours in Speech-language Therapy and Audiology (Logopaedics) from the University of Cape Town. After several years’ clinical experience in adult health care, she completed her masters and PhD at the University of Canterbury with a research focus on the neural control of swallowing. Her PhD research resulted in multiple scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals, several awards, and invitations to speak at local and international conferences. Bronwen has since served as an Honorary Research Associate in the Science Faculty at the University of Auckland for several years, providing supervision of postgraduate research in paediatric feeding.
Bronwen currently works full-time in government in the tertiary education sector. She has a special interest in governance and is currently an associate member of the Institute of Directors.

- Top Achievers Doctoral Scholarship (2003-6), initially with the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology then the Tertiary Education Commission.
- Joint prize for best student presentation at Canterbury Health Research Conference (2005), Christchurch, New Zealand.
- Medical Staffing International-New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists’ Association Doctoral Award (2005).
- Goddard Prize for best student presentation at 22nd International Australasian Winter Conference on Brain Research (2004), Queenstown, New Zealand.
- University of Canterbury Prize (2003), awarded on academic merit on recommendation to the Faculty of Science, University of Canterbury.
- Enterprise Scholarship (2002), the Foundation for Research Science and Technology.
