Research Fellow

Biography

Dr Ho graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction from the South China University of Technology, a Master of Science with First Class Honours in Computer Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Bioengineering from the University of Auckland.

His research interests include mathematical modelling for physiological flows, physiologically based pharmacokinetics (PBPK) modelling, 3D visualisation of bio-structures, medical image computing and surgical simulations. He is the first or corresponding author of ~30 peer-reviewed international journal papers/book chapters, including the top journals in his field (e.g., IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering).

Dr Ho is either the principal investigator or the key researcher in multiple multi-disciplinary projects. He was the manager of the Lamb Carcass Modelling project (2013-2015) commissioned by Silver Fern Farms, New Zealand's largest meat processing company. Currently he is leading a National Science Challenge project "Womb with a view" for which he and his collaborators are developing an anatomically accurate fetus model and using it for the study of drug clearance from fetus.

He has supervised more than 20 biomedical engineering projects at the postgraduate and senior undergraduate level.

Research | Current

Dr Ho is involved in the following research projects:

  • Auckland Virtual Liver Project
  • Silver Fern Farms Lamb Carcass Modelling Project
  • Auckland Aneurysm Modelling Project

He is currently  leading a group of students working on the "Pre-surgical planning for soft organs" project within the Medical Technologies Centre of Research Excellence (MedTech CoRE) framework.

Dr Ho holds grants that can support short term research projects in the biomedical and agricultural domain. If you are interested in working in these areas, please contact Dr Ho for further details of the projects.
