Katie graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with Honours from the University of Arkansas in May 2015. Katie joined the Auckland Bioengineering Institute as a doctoral candidate in November 2015. She is now a member of Biomimetics Lab, researching artificial muscle technology.

Biomedical and soft robotic applications for dielectric elastomer electronic switching
Novel dielectric elastomer switches (DES) were invented and developed within the Biomimetics Lab of the ABI. DES are soft and can be used for electronic control of soft robotic devices. Innovative applications for this technology will be explored, with emphasis in biomedical applications.
