Nutritional Modelling; modelling nutritional uptake mechanisms in small intestine

This project will examine nutrient uptake/transport mechanisms in the small intestines using experimental measurements on a small animal model and mathematical modelling of these mechanisms.

The goal is to develop a validated model of nutrient uptake from the epithelial cells (lining the walls of the small intestines) to the capillary bed via the interstitial space and endothelial cells. The experimental work will be conducted in collaboration with colleagues at Massey University in Palmerston North.

The modelling work will use the CellML modelling framework developed at the ABI.
