Dr Shameer Sathar
BTech(Distinction) CUSAT, PhD
Biography
Shameer Sathar is with the Gastrointestinal Research Group at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute. His current research involves development of novel computational tools for mathematically modelling and analysing the gastrointestinal signals to aid development of new therapeutics for motility disorders.
Shameer Sathar received his Bachelor of Techology (First Class with Distinction) from Cochin University of Science and Technology, India in 2010. After graduation, Shameer joined a technology-based company in India where he worked as a part of a software team developing computer applications for processing DICOM images.
In November 2011, Shameer joined the Auckland Bioengineering Institute as a PhD student within the gastrointestinal research group, under the supervision of Associate Professor Leo K Cheng and Dr Mark Trew. The focus of his thesis was to develop efficient computational techniques and methods to simulate and validate the gastrointestinal functional models using parallel-computing resources. He completed his PhD in 2015 and is continuing as a Research Fellow with Associate Professor Leo Cheng.
Research | Current
Shameer's current research involves development of computational techniques and tools to understand and analyse the effects of application of electrical current injection to the underlying function of the gastric system. The study will enable in developing electroceuticals for controlling the mechanism of GI function for treatment of motility disorders.
