Evan Blumgart

Alumnus profile

BE(Hons) ME

Evan Blumgart graduated from The University of Auckland in 2010 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree specialising in Biomedical Engineering. He joined the Auckland Bioengineering Institute in 2010 as a Master of Engineering student.

Evan's thesis focuses on building mathematical and computational models in order to describe the spatial distribution of the protein strucures within heart cells. Specifically, he is interested in stochastically generating ryanodine receptor distributions with respect to specified myofibril locations. This approach has the potential to be extended to all organelles within heart cells with an overall goal of fully generating a model of the internal geometric architecture. Once the modelling was completed, simulations of electrical and contractile functions were made, as well as comparisons to various disease states studied.
