Profile
Ju completed a Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering (Hons) at The University of Auckland in 2008, and began his PhD at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute in 2009.
The shape and internal structure (morphology) of the femur is know to greatly affect fracture risk. Also, the shape of the femur has long been used in forensics for identification. Working with collaborators at the University of Melbourne, with links to the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine, Ju is developing methodology and software tools to enable the large-scale population-based statistical analysis of human femur morphology. The goal is to automatically extract and analyse femur morphology from X-Ray CT images, so that a population's modes of morphological variation can be described and used for prediction.
