Profile

Oliver Maclaren received a BE (Hons) in Engineering Science from the University of Auckland in 2008. In 2009 he began a PhD in Bioengineering at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute.

Oliver's research is focused on understanding saliva secretion by constructing mathematical models across multiple spatial scales. Through analysis and simulation, in conjunction with experimental work carried out at the University of Rochester (NY, USA), he intends to test the role of several molecular and cellular elements involved in the secretion process.

Ultimately, this work aims to contribute to the basic understanding of salivary secretion, as well as to the development of treatments for salivary gland dysfunction.
